Hi All,

I have just brought some of the new Pig Iron figures released last week.  They look great and it made me dig out my Gripping Beast/Woodbine Colonial Marines that I started to paint about 3 years ago!!

As you can see from the dodgy pictures, the bases need to be completed and Ripley needs a coat of matt varnish!!
The guy on the right of Ripley is Drake the Smart Gunner.

The following picture has Hudson in the centre with the motion tracker, to his right is Hicks with his shotgun.  To the left of Hudson is the Dropship pilot, Ferro.

These figures are work in progress and I need to finish them off.  I have just ordered another load of bases from Antonocities so should be able to finish them over the next few weeks.  I have also brought a couple of the Antonocitis Sentry Guns.

I'm thinking of using the figures in Space Hulk, instead of the Terminators, but haven't decided yet.  If you guys can recommend some Aliens to go with these let me know.  I'm struggling and considering using Genestealers.

Cheers all

Again just need to complete the bases and varnish.

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in posts, it's been far too long since my last post in June, and I promise to keep the blog more updated moving forward.  I promise!!

As a typical painter I have flitted around various periods, such as modern Afghanistan by painting a few Eureka US Marines and completing my US Special Forces figures by Baker Company.  But a blog that I follow has drawn me back into the Zulu War period once again.
If you haven't seen it I recommend that you visit Wargaming with Silver Whistle, it's well worth a look.

I am nearly finnished painting another three figures from the Rorke's Drift Defenders set from Empress, and have one eye on 30 or so Zulus that are on my bench.  I'm not really looking forward to those and could do with a receipe for painting lots of them quickly!!

Anyway just a quick couple of photos showing the completed Special Forces figures.  I wish I could sort out how to allow people to leave comments and make this blog a littel more interactive.

Cheers all

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog.  I seem to have switched periods yet again, something most wargamers do on a regular basis.

I've been painting a few Falkland War figures from Mofo and Mongrol, with an idea to do a couple of small skirmish games such as Top Malo House etc.

The first figure is a Special forces Officer from Mongrol.

The following are all British Paras with a couple of TAG backpacks added.

More Paras with LMG and M79 weapons

Finally a quick photo of Durnford's Cavalry from Empress Miniatures.

Cheers all

I have been quite busy this week.  I finally finished the Empress Miniatures 7lb gun thats been sitting on my painting desk for about a year!!!

If you know your Zulu War guns you'll notice I made a hash of making the model kit.  I managed to glue the gun to the base before fully completing the model and then realised that I couldn't glue the remaining parts to the carriage!!  Never mind though.

I also brought another 20 figures from Empress to start of my third unit of British regulars, I already have the officers and NCO's.

I managed to complete a couple of figures from another period that I'm interested in, The 7th Cavalry and Little Big Horn Campaign.  I completed a private and Lt Cooke, Adjutant of the 7th.  I'm just waiting for the varnish to dry and then I'll take a couple of pictures for next week.  The figures are from Foundry by the way.

See you next time.

Monday, 30 April 2012

I think I have finally settled on a set of rules that I am happy with.  They are The Sword and the Flame.  I like the simple nature combined with small unit action.

I have been collecting figures for what seems like years, and so far have completed two 20 figure units of British regulars including officers and NCOs.  I have a Captain and Colour-Sergeant to go with these.  I have also painted a mounted Melvill and Pulleine figures from Empress along with an old Foundry Officer that looks very much like Chelmsford.

I have a unit of mounted and dismounted Auxiliary Cavalry included Carbineers, NMP and BBG with a mounted and dismounted Durnford.

I have just ordered another 20 figures for the start of a second British company; lord knows how long it will take me to paint these!!!  This brings me on to my next point.  I was given some Games Workshop vouchers for Christmas from a relative, its funny that any relative who knows you like painting toy soldiers naturally think you paint GW!  Anyway, I decided that I needed to speed up my red painting, as at the moment the process is a follows;
Base of GW Dark Flesh and GW Blood Red
More Blood Red,
Just Blood Red
Blood Red and Deep Orange
and more!!!
You see it takes ages to paint a red coat in my place!!!  Anyway, I thought I would try the new GW paints.  I brought the new Red range and using a 3 layer system am very pleased with the results.  I will post a WIP shot of a horrible Foundry Brit figure, just to show the red.

I've waffled on for long enough so will leave you with some more figures.

All of these figures are from the excellent Empress range of figures.  I will try and take some unit pictures over the weekend and get these posted.

28mm Zulu War figures

This is the first post on my Blog that will mainly revolve around my collection of Zulu War figures concentrating on the first invasion in January 1879.

The following figures are work in progress photos of some of the defenders of Rorke's Drift.  These figures are from Empress and are absolutly beautiful.

At the time of this post the figures are now complete and fully based and portray Acting Assistant Commissary James Langley Dalton, Corporal Schiess of the 2/3rd NNC, Cook and the Reverend Smith.

Cheers for now
